Onsite Medical Services

CHM provides a full array of onsite medical services including lab, x-ray services, medical waste removal, receiving screenings, inmate health assessments as well as medication administration and management. As a facility, when you choose CHM you can rest assured – we do it all, from A to Z.

Supplies and Equipment
CHM provides all the office and medical supplies needed for the coordination and facilitation of healthcare services at the facilities we serve. An individualized daily method of inventory control for safety and security is developed by CHM and approved by each facility administration team. All controlled substances such as syringes, needles, chemical substances and surgical instruments are stored and secured properly.

Medical Waste Management
At CHM, we train our team members to properly handle, store and dispose of hazardous and contaminated medical waste.

Staff Testing
CHM provides tuberculosis testing as well as other various vaccinations and immunizations for all facility staff, as requested by the county.

Access to Healthcare & Receiving Screenings
During the receiving screening process, onsite CHM team members explain to each inmate his or her rights to healthcare. Each inmate receives an orientation and information on how to access healthcare services at each facility.

Upon the inmate’s arrival, an receiving health screening is completed based on structured inquiry and observation. All screenings are reviewed to determine if additional follow up is necessary. Inmates who arrive at the facility with an injury or illness will be thoroughly assessed prior to booking. CHM works directly with the facility to develop admission criteria.

Communicable Diseases
CHM’s healthcare team closely monitors and screens for communicable diseases such as tuberculosis, HIV, AIDS, hepatitis and sexually transmitted diseases. When communicable diseases are diagnosed, CHM takes appropriate isolation precautions and will treat the individuals in accordance with protocols established by the local health department. Following protocol, reports of communicable diseases will be sent to the State Health Department.

Inmate Health Assessments
The CHM team performs an inmate health assessment on each inmate within 14 days of admission. The health assessment includes a review of the receiving screening, collection of the inmate’s full healthcare history and a physical exam. If the results from the inmate’s health assessment require further evaluation or treatment, a referral to the appropriate health provider will be made.

Non-Emergency Healthcare Requests and Services
CHM has developed a proprietary system through which inmates’ requests are received and assessed. Based on the system, appropriate healthcare services are provided for nonemergency illnesses or injuries.

Medication Administration and Management (Pill Call)
CHM maintains a medication administration system to meet the facility’s needs. Medication distribution generally occurs twice a day. The CHM healthcare team is trained in security matters related to medications; accountable for timely carrying out of practitioner orders; responsible for recording the administration of medications and have expertise in common side effects of medications.
